WHEREAS, MediaWiki is a free wiki software application developed by the Wikimedia Foundation and others, used to run all of the main projects hosted by the Foundation, including Wikipedia, Wiktionary and Wikimedia Commons;

WHEREAS, MediaWiki has generally favored for collaborative group projects, knowledge and content management and has also been used to power many other wikis, both public and private;

WHEREAS, Information technology in the Philippines has been recognized as an emerging industry with many multinational companies and newly established local companies using local talents for their expertise in software development, business process outsourcing and customer support;

WHEREAS, Many local information technology professionals have little or no awareness on MediaWiki and were actively searching for an alternative to proprietary collaborative or knowledge management products for their organizations;

WHEREAS, Wikimedia Philippines, a duly recognized chapter of Wikimedia Foundation, has active relations to a global network of MediaWiki specialists and users;

NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby RESOLVED, A development program named Philippine MediaWiki Startup Initiative shall be created to undertake and participate in training courses, periodic seminars, technical projects, studies and research for the promotion of Mediawiki and its supporting product applications;

RESOLVED FURTHER, to implement this program in the Philippines to be lead by Roman Bustria Jr.;

RESOLVED FURTHERMORE, that the amounts necessary for carrying out the preparations for the program's implementation shall be charged against a fund under the name of the program.
